Give Peace a Chance

Peace on our green Earth is something that most people in the world pray for. It is a thing that seems almost unattainable, but not necessarily impossible. When we are young, peace is one thing most people are tought. It isn’t until we get older and more wise that it seems to be an unattainable goal.

Think of how wonderful a world it would be if we had peace and harmony throughout the entire world. It’s something that many people try and adopt, but it never seems to become too contagious. In the words of the great John Lennon, “All we are saying is give peace a chance.”

Haiti needs all the help that they can get

Folks that are enthusiastic about working with a nonprofit organization in order to help Haitians revive their communities and build a brighter future have a new volunteer opportunity. As an example, the non profit seeking volunteers and donations for creating a solar-powered center for satellite Net access and PC use and learning.

Many volunteers provide precious, life-saving services. But Haiti wants volunteers that may raise the helpful capacity inside Haitian communities over the long run.  The location is a rustic mountain community that has no electric grid and no public Net access. Volunteers are required who have experience in info technology, computer learning, and satellite Web technology.

The volunteers will help plan and set up solar, satellite and computer systems and supply onsite coaching. Volunteers are selected for 2 other projects. In one project, scholars of a culinary college and their instructors will be taught food-safety methods to be used when cooking for giant numbers of folk. In another project, highschool scholars will learn how to be first responders on public health issues, and a medical team will conduct a hospital for folks locally. The projects are built to attain categorical goals voiced by the people of the community.

The range of future projects includes community health, sanitation, education, work, environmental protection, infrastructure, transport, disaster readiness and sustainable business development. Haiti is the least wealthy country in the Western Hemisphere. Haitians have low expectancy, countless lingering health concerns, insufficient food production and grim environmental threats.

Mentoring is not only for children, but business owners as well

Mentoring provides a way to offer experiences and give back. Mentoring is a relationship which gives folk the chance to share their pro and private talents and life experiences, and to grow and develop in the act. There are no basic talents required to mentor. The mentor only uses his understanding gained thru experiences to coach, counsel, guide, inspire, promote, etc.

Mentoring can be done face-to face or it can be done remotely e.g, through the net or by phone. A coach can be somebody we all know well or it can be someone that we don’t know personally or professionally. It can be somebody who we’ve got established a relationship with only to take part in the mentoring process.

Traditionally , mentoring in the business world has been more formal, more structured ; frequently gained thru business organisations and faculties. with expanding technology and the fast changing business and business environment that needs U.S. Firms to challenge in a global market place, business coaching is beginning to become a more informal process. This change is pleasant since it increases the chance for more coaching and for the coach to get the advantages gained by serving as a coach. The self-development, continued private and business expansion and change we all wish and try for, is got by coaching by providing people with somebody to give feedback, question , challenge, comfort and guide. So why should not we open doors that create chances for more mentoring.

Volunteer workers are greatly appreciated

Ever thought of making your next vacation a different experience to anything you have done before, to contribute with your time and money? Well join the thousands of people that travel to exotic locales around the planet and take part in the new eco-tourism revolution. Many otherwise educated or those that consider themselves travel trend conscious are shocked to learn that not only do volunteers travel overseas to work for somebody else, they pay for the privilege! So what is volunteering exactly? You might work with lion rehab programs in East Africa to help HIV / assists orphans in the Garden Route, dive underwater while researching coral reefs in Australia or help teach Tibetan friars British .

Most volunteer projects can be split into two groups : wildlife orientated and humanitarian / cultural. The wildlife type projects are often a touch more costly with projects beginning at 1000 for one month, and can go up plenty more times than this for extended expeditions or in projects that give you a qualification when you leave like a PADI diving certificate. Against this you might work on a humanitarian project in India or Africa at a price beginning at 500, for a month. The explanation for the difference isn’t swiftly clear but doubtless boils down to the charming selling potential of working with wildlife. That isn’t to assert that these projects are any less worthwhile but sometimes folk are prepared to pay more for this kind of experience.

Thankfully not every one of us need a five star game lodge from which to work, or a comfy double room with ensuite lavatory and there are superb occasions to stay with local communities, living their life and eating their food. Otherwise you might sleep literally under the stars while on a research camp and eat really basic meals, a humbling but fantastically rewarding experience being in actually wild places. The average volunteer program runs for around a month, but many corporations will fit you in for a reduced duration. Most will also take you on for an extended time period but not sometimes more than an additional month, particularly on social or humanitarian type projects.

A question that occasionally surfaces regarding volunteer travel and the work these intrepid adventurers make a contribution to is, are volunteers basically contributing anything worthwhile, aside from the funding they provide? The answer in my opinion is definitely yes! Naturally there’ll always be organisations which will jump on the volunteer or eco-tourism bandwagon and try to exploit the area people, wildlife conservation initiative and the volunteers themselves by withholding the facts about the goals of the project, the cash reinvested into the project and the job volunteers will have in definitely changing the situation. Your best defence is to make an informed call, and to do that you want info. Volunteers can have a major and lasting positive result on many projects. The key has a project structure that supplies the correct support, coaching and offers excellent value.

Good News for Myanmar Relief Workers

According to the New York Times, there is now good news for Myanmar and it’s people now weeks into the cyclone catastrophe without much help.

“Myanmar’s military junta promised on Friday to allow into the country “all aid workers” of any nationality, after three weeks of blocking most assistance to cyclone victims, the United Nations secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, announced.

Mr. Ban’s statement was met with surprise and wariness by relief officials here and American officials in Washington, not least because the pledge was delivered on the eve of an international donors’ conference in Myanmar this weekend.

While the junta has largely ignored international criticism of its response to the May 3 storm, which left some 134,000 people dead or missing, it is asking for $11.7 billion in reconstruction money. That is nearly Myanmar’s annual gross domestic product.

Mr. Ban did not release details of his discussions with the junta or say whether it was now promising a free flow of volunteers and what aid officials say is desperately needed relief.

But he told reporters traveling with him, “I had a very good meeting with the senior general, particularly on these aid workers,” referring to Senior Gen. Than Shwe.”
